Our potatoes have eyes!

We've taken to calling our neonatal pups potatoes. They move about as much, and are pretty much helpless. But this week - our little potatoes have opened their eyes, are more mobile, and are able to eliminate without Mom's help (this makes for even more laundry!). This week their ears should open as well.

Today was day 15 of ESI and ENS. We have one more day of the Early Scent Introduction and Early Neurological Stimulation (Bio Sensor). First we weigh and record it for the records. Then we proceed with the ENS (held head up, head down, on back, tickle foot with q-tip, place on cold rag -- each for 5 seconds). Then we introduce a smell and record their reaction. Today was dill from the pantry. Lastly I clip their toenails (every 3 days).

This week the pups get introduced to a potty area in the whelping box. Directly after Christmas, they will be moved into their new digs, what we call the puppy play yard. Here we will continue to introduce them to novel items every day, throughout their 'sensitive period' - until they go home with you.

Enjoy the pictures my daughters took of our daily weigh, ENS, ESI, and the third day nail trimming ritual.
