Two weeks has come and gone. That means our neonatal period is over. Eyes are opened and ears are opening. The pups are now all motoring around the whelping box and interacting with each other. They are exploring more with the sounds they make to hear themselves, so the house is filled with baby growls and barks as well as the grunts, howls, and whines.
We've a few days left of ESI and ENS. They've been introduced to outside smells such as grass and pine, work related items such as leather gloves and chickens, spices and herbs such as dill and lavender, fruits like apple and citrus - just to name a few.
Along with nail trims, ESI, ENS, cleaning, laundry, weighing, cuddling, we add and move toys and items around the whelping box daily. Now with their ears open, we begin desensitizing them with strange noise daily; thunder, construction, traffic, farm animals, dog pound noises, anything and everything we can think of.
I drew Saoirse's blood and sent it off for her nomograph so we can get the custom vaccine schedule for this litter of little howlers. Momma is doing well and is enjoy our company this week. Our daughter has come to visit and she is very happy to see her girl.
Our transition period begins with the third week. Now things get really busy. The world will open up to the pups and we plan to take advantage of it all. Personalities will begin and change as they develop.
We thought we'd try a cute addition to pictures this week and try to swaddle puppies and get pics of baby toes and nose. We thought it turned out cute. A big thank you to my daughter, Caitlynn for her help.
